Why did my scheduled reel fail to post?
Check four things in this order: is the account still connected, does the video meet the platform's limits for length, format, frame rate and file size, was the daily posting cap reached, and did the prepared post expire before it was published? Then match your tool's error message in the table below.
Three quick checks first
- Is the account still connected? An expired login stops every post. Reconnect the account in your tool.
- Is your Instagram still a professional account? Publishing through the API needs one.
- Did you hit a daily cap? Instagram, Facebook and TikTok all limit posts per 24 hours through their APIs.
Each error and how to fix it
| What you see | What it means | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Expired (Instagram) | The reel was prepared but not published within 24 hours. | Schedule it again from the file. |
| Error while processing (Instagram) | Instagram couldn't finish processing the video. | Re-export as MP4, H.264, AAC audio, 23 to 60 fps, 3 s to 15 min, under 300 MB, and try again. |
| Video too long or too short | It's outside the platform's range. | Instagram Reels 3 s to 15 min; Facebook Page reels 3 to 90 s; TikTok up to 10 min or the account's maximum; Shorts up to 3 min. |
| Unsupported format | The file type or codec isn't accepted. | Export MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio. |
| Image or cover rejected (Instagram) | Instagram's API takes JPEG images only. | Save covers and photos as JPEG. |
| Daily limit reached | Too many API posts in the last 24 hours. | Wait for the oldest post in the window to drop out, or move posts to the next day. |
| "Too many posts" (TikTok) | The account's daily API cap is reached. | Move the post to tomorrow. |
| TikTok post only visible to you | The app that posted it hasn't passed TikTok's audit, so its posts are private. | Post with a tool whose TikTok app has passed the audit. |
| Page Publishing Authorization (Instagram) | The Facebook Page linked to the account needs Meta's publishing authorization. | Complete it for the Page in Meta's settings, then try again. |
| "Daily upload limit reached" (YouTube) | YouTube's daily limit, which varies by country or region and channel history. | Wait 24 hours. |
| "Processing abandoned" (YouTube) | The file may be cut short or invalid. | Play it back, check the file type, and upload again. |
| Short blocked (YouTube) | Shorts over a minute with an active copyright claim are blocked. | Resolve or remove the claimed material, or keep the Short under a minute. |

How to stop it happening again
Use one export preset
MP4, H.264, AAC, 1080 × 1920, 30 fps. It fits the published reel limits of every major platform.
Keep reels to 90 seconds if they go to Facebook
Facebook Page reels published through Meta's API stop at 90 seconds.
Check connections weekly
Open your scheduler's accounts page once a week and reconnect anything that's flagged.
Leave room under the caps
Don't stack a day's posts at the limit, especially when several tools post to the same account.
Watch the first post after a change
After a new export setting or a reconnected account, make sure the next post goes live.
The easier way
- Every post is checked against its platform's limits before you can approve it: caption length, hashtags, video length and carousel size. Anything that breaks a limit is flagged so it's fixed before it's scheduled.
- Reels made in Socialhand are cut, captioned and sized for each platform.
- If a platform still refuses a post, it's marked as failed with the platform's reason in your calendar, and the morning email says how many posts failed that week.
- Plans start at $97 a month for all 8 platforms, and you can try it free first.
Questions people ask
Why did my reel post on Instagram but not on Facebook?
Check the length first. Facebook Page reels published through Meta's API can be at most 90 seconds, while Instagram Reels can run to 15 minutes.
Why does my scheduled TikTok only show to me?
TikTok makes everything posted by an app private until that app passes TikTok's audit. Check which tool posted it.
Do I have to upload again after an error?
Usually. A prepared Instagram post expires after 24 hours, so a failed or expired one has to be prepared again from the file.
