How many posts can you schedule on Instagram and TikTok a day?
Through a scheduling tool, Meta's guide sets Instagram at 100 API-published posts per moving 24 hours (it says 50 in one section, so plan for 50), with a carousel counting as one. TikTok caps API posts per account each day but doesn't publish the number. Spread posts out to stay under both.
Instagram limits for scheduled posts
- Daily cap: 100 API-published posts in a moving 24-hour window, per Meta's content publishing guide. The same page says 50 in its carousel section.
- A carousel counts as one post and holds up to 20 photos or videos. Every image is cropped to the first one's ratio, 1:1 by default.
- Reels: 3 seconds to 15 minutes, up to 300 MB, 23 to 60 fps, 9:16 recommended.
- Stories: up to 60 seconds and 100 MB per video.
- Images: JPEG only, up to 8 MB, between 4:5 and 1.91:1.
- A post prepared for publishing expires if it isn't published within 24 hours.
- Publishing through the API needs an Instagram professional account.
How the 24-hour window works
The window moves rather than resetting at midnight: each post counts for 24 hours after it goes out. Tools can ask Instagram how much of the allowance is used. If yours shows a daily-limit error, wait for the oldest post in the last 24 hours to drop out, or move posts to the next day.
TikTok limits for scheduled posts
- Daily cap: TikTok limits how many posts each account can send through its API in a day, but doesn't publish the number. When it's reached, tools get a "too many posts" response (spam_risk_too_many_posts).
- Requests: 20 a minute per account's access token.
- Length: up to 10 minutes through the API. Each account also has its own maximum, which TikTok reports to the tool before posting.
- Video files: MP4 (recommended), WebM or MOV, H.264 recommended, up to 4 GB, 360 to 4,096 pixels on each side, 23 to 60 fps.
- Photos: JPEG or WebP, up to 20 MB and 1080p.
- Audience: the choices a tool can offer (everyone, friends, followers, only me) depend on the account's own privacy settings.
- New apps: until an app passes TikTok's audit, everything it posts is private. If a tool's TikTok posts only show to you, that's the likely reason.
Daily caps on the other platforms
| Platform | Posts per 24 hours through the API | Longest video |
|---|---|---|
| 100 (50 in one section of the same guide) | 15 min (Reels) | |
| Facebook Page reels | 30 | 90 s |
| Threads | 250 | 300 s |
| TikTok | A cap per account; the number isn't published | 10 min, or less if the account's maximum is lower |
| YouTube | A daily upload limit that varies by country or region and channel history | Shorts up to 3 min; 15 min until the account is verified |
From each platform's own documentation (see Sources below).
YouTube Shorts rules worth knowing
- Shorts can be up to 3 minutes, square or vertical. Wider videos count as regular videos.
- A Short longer than one minute with an active copyright claim is blocked until the claim is resolved.
- Accounts can upload videos up to 15 minutes until they're verified.
How to stay under the limits
- Spread posts through the day instead of sending a batch at once.
- On Instagram, use a carousel for a set of photos: it counts as one post.
- Use one tool per account. Two schedulers posting to the same account share its daily allowance.
- If TikTok says "too many posts", move the post to tomorrow; sending it again straight away won't help.
The easier way
- Socialhand makes one new idea a day on Starter, 3 on Growth, and 3 for each of up to 2 brands on Pro, each turned into a post for all 8 platforms and scheduled for you.
- Every post is checked against its platform's limits before you can approve it: caption length, hashtags, video length and carousel size. Anything that breaks a limit is flagged so it's fixed before it's scheduled.
- If a platform still refuses a post, it's marked as failed with the platform's reason in your calendar, and the morning email says how many posts failed that week.
- Plans start at $97 a month for all 8 platforms, and you can try it free first.
